A couple questions that came to mind while watching a minor subplot on The West Wing tonight:
1) Why do people make assumptions about the degree of involvement of someone wearing a Star Trek pin that they wouldn't make about someone with, of example, a Lakers pennant in their office?
2) Sorkin still hasn't gotten over his feud with the moderators of certain television fandom sites I could name, is he?
I'm in Mississippi at my parents' for Thanksgiving. I don't want to imply that the area is a little behind the times or anything, but I passed by an internet cafe in Biloxi the other day.
They had a picture of a 5 1/4" disk on the sign.
If you've been shopping on Amazon recently, you've probably noticed that the online retailer seems particularly concerned with the condition of your undergarments. No matter what product you might have been looking at, the website recommended buying "clean underwear" along with it. As it turns out, Amazon is not trying to become your mother; the whole thing was just a joke. Whatever. [via NTK]
The new server I'm staging is right next to me. The keyboard is within arm's reach.
Naturally, I'm doing everything through Terminal Server.
(In my defense, I have a better mouse on my normal desktop machine.)
I haven't felt much like writing lately. And then, when I did want to write about something important, I couldn't find words I'd be satisfied with. Now I just have to say something, anything, to move on.
Three weeks ago, my grandmother died.
About five months ago, she had a stroke, from which she never really recovered. She had good days, when she was fully alert and aware; other days, she was confused or even unresponsive.
I loved my grandmother. As much as I miss her, I'm glad her suffering is over. That's all the tribute I can find to write for her now. Maybe it'll be enough.
