June 2003 Archives
I am back home in St. Louis. I am also in the throes of raving paranoia, as the result of the class I took last week in Dallas. Three days of studying all the nasty things a malicious hacker could do to my web servers tends to have that effect.
Today's lab in my web hacking class involved trying to alter a web page on a server after opening a remote command-line using an obscure server exploit. The first tool I tried to use to edit the file was edlin.
I feel old.
I made it to Dallas (relatively) safely.
To my surprise, the weather is no worse than it was in STL when I left.
To my even greater surprise, road navigation is much worse.
Just so that my web page won't look so completely, pathetically empty:
- Yes, I'm still alive.
- No, I haven't lost net access.
- Haven't felt much like writing lately, but I'm basically OK.
- The week before last, we had a power outage at work that made that week a living hell.
- I'm off to Dallas frickin' Texas next week for a class on web hacking.
- My co-worker is about to go on maternity leave, and the Dallas trip will probably be my last venture more than an hour's drive from St. Louis until she gets back.
- Dallas frickin' Texas would not be my first choice for a summer trip.
- I'm not reading the new Harry Potter yet, even though initial reviews sound promising; I'll probably track down a copy when I get back.
- I have yet to see The Hulk, The Italian Job, or Finding Nemo, though they seem like good ways to spend time in air conditioning in Dallas.
- Senator Orrin Hatch (R-RIAA) is a dick.
