Dilemma

From all I can tell, UPN's new series Rock Me Baby is ye another undifferentiable chunk of sitcom crap. From every single commercial I've seen, it can't possibly be any good -- we're talking fart-lighting territory, folks. However, it appears that the Violent Femmes have somehow allowed themselves to be roped into appearing on the next episode. Furthermore, they'll be playing their version of the late Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire".

On one hand: Soul- and intellect-crushing pseudo-comedy. On the other: Great band, great song.

If I TiVo it, and skip past the "funny" (by UPN standards) bits and just watch the Femmes' performance, I can't lose that many brain cells, right?

Right?

Don't Do It! Don't Don It!

Who knows what the outcome will be? you could end up like the villian in a comicbookbased movie, only without a cool costume.

saw the taping as a guest of the band. the highlight was hearing Gordon say, "This goes out to the guys who burnt their asses.", LOL

BTW - it was shot a couple weeks before Mr. Cash died. Spooky-ish. too bad it was agreed to before seeing a script. IMHO - the cover rocks, but the premise for the episode (not to mention this - hopefully - short lived show), is a bit sophomoric.

I agree, the show blows. yet another reason I don't own an idiot box.

Cheers!

Thanks for the eyewitness report, John! I finally watched the show (or more to the point, the Femmes' segment of it) and survived. Seeing them do "Ring of Fire" was worth the pain of the small part of the show I watched. It was painful, though; there are very few other bands that could lure me in to watch this show again.
