Fade to Black

|

About two years ago, I posted about a story of a Missouri town that was trying to combat the goth menace. Today, it looks like (despite federal funding) they either couldn't find any goths, or figured out that they weren't a menace.

Wow.

What I want to know is, would they have used the same ending if UPN hadn't renewed the series?

Setting Standards

The next time I buy a car (hopefully, at least a yesr or two off), I'm taking a 17-inch computer monitor to the dealership with me. I will not purchase another vehicle with a trunk into which I can not easily load an object of that size. The trunk of a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier is probably large enough in volume, but the trunk opening is for crap. I'll be looking real close at hatchbacks and mini-wagons next time around.

Stupid Evil Chill Pill

Some Stupid Evil Bastard suggests that there may be distinct and separate licensing for developers and rank-and-file MT users like myself, within a couple of months. That sounds worth adopting a "wait and see" attitude. However, that doesn't preclude taking a long and hard look at the alternatives while I'm waiting.
Movable Type (the software I use to maintain this weblog) announced the release of a new version yesterday, and perhaps more significantly, a new pricing scheme. Naturally, all hell has broken loose among the user community. What would once have been an automatic decision has become a difficult one; I'll have to think long and hard about whether to upgrade, or even whether to continue using the software. I may have more to say on the matter later. In the meantime, MeanDean has the most reasonable commentary (or at least the one that best matches my impressions) on the matter I've seen so far.

Gallery of Heroes

|
I set up Gallery on my site this weekend. All I've posted so far has been a handful of screenshots of one of my City of Heroes charcters. Now that I have a place to put some pix, I can hopefully do a bit more. At the very least, I'm thinking of putting up a pictre of some of the quilts my mom (Happy Mothers' Day!) has made.

I killed a website just to watch it die.

Well, redirect, actually. Good enough for me.

Beating my Chest

I'd be tempted to wear a gorilla suit to work one day, but I'm not sure anyone would notice. [via Pete]

One of our users wants advance notice when network services and applications are going to be down due to a virus outbreak.

I want a pony.

I picked up City of Heroes last week after reading a bunch of bloggers and journallers raving about the public beta. Damn, this is a fun game, and I played most of the weekend. You gotta love a game where a big, burly druid and a '70s blaxploitation heroine can team up to clear out a warehouse full of Nazis.
