Happy Birthday to my dad, who won't be reading this since he's somewhere off the coast of Scandinavia, and to Harry Potter, who won't be reading this because he doesn't exist.
Wasn't it about a month ago that somebody put up a more-than-complete collection of original Nintendo Entertanment System gear up for auction on eBay? Supposedly, this treasure trove includes every game ever released for the system. If you heard of the auction, you might also have heard that the Penny Arcade guys snapped it up, to offer as the prize in the ultimate gaming contest at their fan convention. They have put up pictures now. Look upon their works, ye mighty, and Despair! (Scroll down.) It looks like something that Doctor Jones should find deep within a trap-riddled tomb.
Fantastic news on season two of the Doctor Who revival. The Cybermen are back, Anthony Stewart Head (Giles from Buffy) will be making an appearance, and coolest of all, Elisabeth Sladen will be reprising here original-series role as Sarah Jane Smith! *geekgasm* [via scarlettina]
Just when I thought I didn't have much of a sense of humor left, it turns out that it's just very specific.

The Sci-Fi channel tonight begins its journey into an alternate reality that defies imagination, a variant timeline where the Fox network doesn't suck.
Here's how it is: Earth got used up, so we terraformed a whole new galaxy of Earths, some rich and flush with new technologies, some not so much. Central Planets, them was formed the Alliance, waged war to bring everyone under their rule; a few idiots tried to fight it, among them myself. I'm Malcolm Reynolds, captain of the Serenity. Got a good crew: fighters, pilot, mechanic. We even picked up a preacher, and a bona fide companion. There's a doctor, too, his genius sister from some Alliance camp, so they're keeping a low profile. You got a job, we can do it, don't much care what it is.That's right, the Sci-Fi channel begins its run of Firefly tonight, leading up to the release of the Serenity movie in theaters. All the episodes, in order. Just try and imagine that; Fox couldn't.
I heard this on Wait Wait last weekend, but just tracked down the source: "For Bush to get rid of Rove would be like Charlie McCarthy firing Edgar Bergen." I'm glad somebody else understands who wears the pants in that relationship.
According to rumor, there may be another round of Serenity preview screenings coming up on July 28th. If so, I'm sure notice will be up on the official preview screening site soon. [via Xkot] If you don't know what I'm talking about...

A couple of weeks ago, a bunch of zombie fans in Montreal decided it would be fun to go play with another fan-culture's heads. And thus, an army of dorkness descended upon an unsuspecting medieval-boffer group's combat practice. Looks like the fighters took it in stride and raised a brave defense against the undead hordes. *blows dust off mt.cgi* OK, time to give this thing another shot.
I've been posting more diary-like material over at my LiveJournal lately, and using del.icio.us as my personal linkbucket. However, I come across links that I want to share with the world (or at least the small segment of it that might read this weblog) from time to time, and this space seems like a better place to post such items of interest. Can't really say how active this site will be; only time will tell.
